THE PETRINE MINISTRY IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF UNITY

The study intends to delve into the historical and theological evolution of the Petrine Ministry, fundamental in the Catholic Church which has maintained it since its origins as "perpetual and visible principle and foundation of unity (LG 23) and at the same time aims to provide an answer to the objections and requests from other non-Catholic Christian confessions and indicate, as far as possible, how it can be exercised at an ecumenical level as a sign and instrument of unity. The texts of the New Testament will be examined (Matthew 16, 13-20 Mark 8, 27-30 Luke 9, 18-20) the Canon 34 of the Apostles and the answers offered by the apostolic fathers and the fathers of the Church. The role played by the bishop of Rome before and after Nicaea will be highlighted, in particular in the pre-Constantinian period, in which the bishop of Rome exercised his authority for the unity of the common faith as a guarantee of orthodoxy, (e.g. as concerns the celebration of Easter, and for the baptism of lapsi.) In Nicaea, canons 6 and 7 lay the foundations for the creation of the pentarchy, ratified by canon no. 3 of the Council of Constantinople of 381 and hence the historical evolution of the Petrine Ministry, its interpretation and exercise with the related ecumenical problems present in the second millennium, to which the ecumenical dialogue is addressed. A thesis to work on is the development of the theology of communion, collegiality and conciliarity.
