Abstract

STF has gone through a relatively recent process of political strengthening along the institutional changes that have taken place, making it possible to identify in the Brazilian constitutions an evolutionary scale in attributions and shielding mechanisms from 1984 to 1988. This work proposes to organize institutional aspects of the Federal Supreme Court regarding its organizational structure, the historical context in which it was formed and how it would be possible to analyze it compared to other similar constitutional courts – Federal Constitutional Court of Germany and the Mexican Supreme Court. Therefore, the objective is initially to deal with the trajectory of the Federal Supreme Court, with emphasis on the institutional changes that occurred after the 1988 Constitution and the consequent expansion of its sphere of action in Brazilian politics.
