Abstract

The "ecumenical" dimension of the Psalter can be grasped, in a special way, if we consider how the issue of universalism is addressed in this work. The present contribution sketches an analysis of the way in which in the Psalms the relationship between prayer and, precisely, universalism is declined - first taking into consideration some individual texts and then the book as a whole. The different ways in which the journey toward the unity of peoples is portrayed, each associated with a different form of prayer, constitute one of the premises of the New Testament vision of the Church on which the efforts of contemporary ecumenism are based.
