Fazendo uma junção entre a concepção cosmológico-filosófico-racional do Beloda Filosofia Antiga e os princípios judaico-cristãos, notadamente à concepção
teleológica de que o homem é um ser para Deus, o qual se alcança pela
interioridade humana, a Filosofia Medieval, combatendo o “sensualismo” e
“imanitismo” dos Antigos, acabaria por superar a própria Filosofia Antiga, construindo
uma nova Estética de caráter cosmológico-filosófico-religiosa, voltada
para o inteligível enquanto ser transcendental – Deus. Na nova Estética Medieval,
a Arte é instrumento de contemplação (imitação da natureza) e tem como
finalidade catequética conduzir o homem ao seu interior, lugar do encontro consigo
mesmo e com Deus.
