Parrhesia in Foucault: or telling the truth with frankness in order to take risks

This article articulates the concepts of parrhesia and risk-taking in the context of Michel Foucault's philosophy. To this end, the pragmatic elements of frank speaking are employed, preceded by the know thyself and the self-care of Socratic-Platonic-Aristotelian philosophy and late antiquity studied by the French philosopher in his aesthetics of existence. It seeks to explain, with the parrhesiastic concepts, the warp of the contemporary philosopher and to emphasize the importance of governing oneself, first, to govern others. It passes through an aphrodidisia and a dietetic that aim to articulate themselves in the philosophical dialectic that Foucault calls the unveiling of freedom. Finally, the parrhesiastic act translates into risk-taking as an incitement to the philosopher's critical and ethical work.
