Kierkegaard and Wittgenstein:

silence and paradox

Abstract

The present article intends to analyze the path between language and faith in Kierkegaard's Philosophical Crumbs and Postscriptum, as well as the possibility of a connection between Wittgenstein's religious vision in Tractus Logico-Philosophicos and Philosophical Investigations. The methodology used will be a comparative narrative analysis of the thought of the author of Migalhas Postscriptum and his “relationship” with the TLF (Tratactus Lógico-Philosophicos) and IF (Philosophical Investigations), based on the primary works of the text. Furthermore, the article presents a general and descriptive introduction to the central problem, that is, the relationship between silence and paradox in the comparative view between Kierkegaard and Wittgenstein. In the second moment, we seek to expand the central theme from the development of problematization about silence and paradox, in a more detailed way, evidencing the metaphysical dimension of faith as a dimension of language, both in Kierkegaard and in Wittgenstein. Furthermore, the description of language is sought as an unspeakable experience, that is, “about what one cannot speak, one must remain silent”. Finally, as a secondary rationale, and based on other research already carried out in this approach, we seek to find evidence in other writings and readings of both philosophers as support for the problematic nature of the theme.
