A theory of subjectivity in Kierkegaard’s pseudonymous work

In this article we propose that with the pseudonymous works of Kierkegaard, a new and disruptive proposal emerges in relation to the structures that modernity used to think about subjectivity. This rupture is made evident, fundamentally, in the books The concept of anxiety by Vigilius Haufniensis and The Sickness Unto The Death by Anti-Climacus. This fundamental shift, using the terminology of the Introduction to the The concept of anxiety, can be thought of in terms of the substitution of the first ethic by the second ethic. We can say that, then, the fundamental purpose of pseudonymous books dedicated to anguish and despair is to offer the individual an understanding of himself that will be a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for the accomplishment of his ethical task. Both pseudonymous works, as indicated by their respective subtitles, are psychological works that read together, we will show, suppose a theory of the subjectivity of sin.
