Vol. 15 No. 36 (2024): DEVOTIONS IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES
Devotional practices are a central dimension of the expression of faith in Catholicism and accompany almost all of its history. However, their trajectory, in terms of their recognition, is permeated by recurring ambivalence, resulting from the type of relationship that the Catholic hierarchy has with these practices, sometimes censoring and condemning, sometimes absorbing and reconfiguring their meanings and practices in accordance with theological orthodoxy. Devotions have persisted in constant reworking due to the relationships they have maintained with the market, the power of the image and the new sensitivities in contemporary society. The dossier will welcome research that favors new approaches in theoretical-methodological terms, new objects and new approaches, such as performance, imagery and materialities.
