FOR A HUMANISTIC EDUCATION

UNDER THE DIDACTICS OF PROXIMITY, PERSISTENCE AND RESTLESSNESS

Abstract

Proximity, persistence, and restlessness are prerequisites for a humanistic education nourished by the reasons of sensitivity, grounded in the arguments of hope, and developed under the auspices of the forces of conjunction. The discussions in this article were produced in the unfolding of reflections made by teachers, students, priests, and pastoral coordinators in educational and pastoral forums in view of the revival of confidence in the contributions of education to the construction of a world of solidarity. Edgar Morin, Byung-Chul Han, and Paulo Freire served as theoretical interlocutors. In the investment of approximation between the objectives of the Global Pact for Education proposed by Pope Francis and the Sciences of Complexity, we revisit the educational and pastoral actions of Monsignor Expedito Sobral de Medeiros (1916-2000), a Catholic priest who lived in the Sertão Potiguar region in the last years of the 20th century, where he learned the importance of community learning. In a society prone to individualistic aspirations, reviewing some of the lessons of the aforementioned Monsignor helps us believe in the strengthening of collective bonds as a means of cognitive democracy, reinforcing a fraternal aesthetic of living and the foundation of an ethic of responsibility.
