Religion and Politics in Brazil

Religion and politics are two phenomena that, throughout history, dialogue with each other, both went hand in hand, from antiquity to the French Revolution that, at least in formal terms, separated them when proposing the notion of secular State. In Brazil, the mediations between religion and politics, object of analysis of this Dossier, were legally separated with the proclamation of the Republic in 1889. This separation occurred from a legal and administrative point of view, both notions being removed, but in fact they remained close through of innumerable issues, which from the apolitical religious to the engaged militant permeate worldviews, ideological positions, the media, the issue of voting, elections and electoral behavior, among many other themes, compatible and incompatible, that propose this mediation between religion and politics...
