Historically marked by cartesian fragmentation and the paradigm of simplification, contemporary thought reveals limitations when facing socio-environmental dilemmas. Edgar Morin's complexity theory and Van Rensselaer Potter's expanded bioethics guide the aim of this article, which is to investigate the feasibility of Environmental Bioethics Committees as spaces for interdisciplinary deliberation, based on the epistemology of complexity. The methodology is qualitative, of a theoretical-reflective nature, based on an exploratory literature review. The analytical path articulates the epistemology of complexity, deliberative bioethics, and its institutional adaptation for addressing socio-environmental ethical dilemmas. The results indicate a gap in the application of complexity theory and the environment as a moral subject in deliberative processes. It is concluded that Environmental Bioethics Committees constitute a possibility to broaden ethical deliberation, overcome the anthropocentrism integrating humans and non-humans in the governance of contemporary socio-environmental challenges.
