Abstract

The principal objective of this article is to analyze the concept of discourse as developed by Ernesto Laclau in order to clarify certain assumptions of his political theory. By taking the concept of discourse as its starting point, the article intends to develop the relationship between discourse theory and political ontology, and how Laclau´s position reframe some assumptions of Marxism through a meticulous assimilation of certain theoretical tenets of post-structuralism philosophy, mainly Derrida and Foucault. Finally, the development of the relationship between discourse theory and political ontology also allows to clarify another relevant relationship within Laclau´s work, which is the connection between the social and the political.
