COSME E DAMIÃO: NA FRONTEIRA DAS RELIGIÕES – UM CASO DE CONFLITO ENTRE A IGREJA UNIVERSAL E PRÁTICAS AFRO-RELIGIOSAS "Cosmas and Damian: on the border of the religions – a case of conflict between the Universal Church and the afro-religious practices"

Abstract

A devoção aos santos Cosme e Damião é antiga no Brasil e conhecida principalmente pela distribuição de doces, que é feita pelos fieis como pagamento de promessas. É nossa intenção notar as diferentes representações que os diversos atores do campo religioso brasileiro fazem desse doce, e as tensões geradas pelas atitudes tomadas a partir dessas representações. Lançamos mão para construção deste artigo de reportagens sobre o tema e também da nossa própria pesquisa de campo realizada na cidade de Igarassu, em Pernambuco.

Abstract

The devotion to the Saints Cosmas and Damian is ancient in Brazil and known mainly for distributing of candy that is made by the faithful as payment for promises. Our intention is trying to see the different representations that the various actors of the Brazilian religious field make about this sweet and the tensions generated by the attitudes taken from these representations. We use to build this paper reports in newspapers about the subject and our research carried out in the city of Igarassu, Pernambuco.
