Resumo

As investigações de Newman sobre o arrianismo do século IV fundamentaram o seu posterior desenvolvimento espiritual e teológico. O clérigo anglicano compreendeu que esta corrente era motivada pelo racionalismo, aliado à política eclesial do momento. Para ele, resultavam necessárias para entender a pessoa de Jesus Cristo a contemplação e a verdadeira fé que nascem da Escritura, da oração pessoal e da celebração litúrgica. A recepção nos séculos XIX e XX desta obra, com uma complicada história redaccional, denota que é não apenas histórica, mas também expressão do seu próprio itinerário pessoal e eclesial. Os Arrianos do Século IV (1832-1871) seria uma detida análise do arrianismo, que nos permite conhecer melhor o Concílio de Niceia. O autor inglês destaca também o papel dos leigos na recepção da verdadeira fé cristológica.

Profesor agregado del Departamento de teología sistemática de la Universidad de Navarra en las áreas de ecumenismo, teología sacramentaria y doctrina del concilio Vaticano II, y profesor asociado del Instituto Core curriculum. Ha ocupado los puestos de secretario del departamento de teología dogmática (2005-2011) y ha sido vocal de la revista Scripta Theologica (2005-2009). Obtuvo el premio Ratzinger de teología en 2023.
