individuality, language, liberal communityAbstract
This article analyzes the contingencies of language, individuality and of a liberal community, in the conception of Richard Rorty, in an attempt to understand their importance in the formation of a conception of democracy as a way of life, originally proposed by John Dewey and defended by Rorty, later. The approach permeates the proposal to deny the “intrinsic truth” of things, thus extinguishing the deities that have permeated language throughout human existence. It deals with the issue of language, which imprinted a strongly transformative conception on Western culture, the result of which was the emergence of a new man, in Rorty's understanding.
