Leonel Franca and the philosophical anthropology in Brazil

Abstract

Rarely does a Brazilian thinker stage reflections on scientific articles. Leonel Franca's choice is precisely to honor national thought and its legitimate philosophical reading of great general themes. In view of this premise, the present article is the bibliographic explanation of one of these legitimate appropriations and readings made by Brazilian intellectuals. In this case, the cleric Leonel Franca, whose philosophy is based on the anthropological movement that emerged in the first half of the 20th century. With regard to the Brazilian thinker, the European references precursing this anthropological movement, such as Scheler, Maritain, Mounier, Arendt and Stein, will be discussed. Then describe how this movement influences the Catholic reaction against social laicization through the Maritanist reading of Franca in her work The Crisis of the Modern World.
