DEVOTION TO JESUS CHRIST AND WORSHIP TO THE GREEK KING

The worship of Jesus Christ did not always happen directly. In the beginning, it was only God the Father who received worship, albeit by means of Jesus Christ. Understanding the political and social context of the Hellenistic period, which led to the arising of the cult of Greek kings, it is possible to glimpse a correlation between this cult of the king and the cult of Jesus Christ. An analysis of Greek texts from the Hellenistic period, remaining in epigraphy, papyri and coins, reveals the similarity between the titles and terms related to the Greek king and the titles and terms connected to Jesus Christ. This similarity of titles and terms allows one to think that the intent achieved by the Greek kings when they authorized and promoted their own cult, may have been the same purpose aimed by the Christian leadership: to ensure the loyalty and obedience of the Christian people.
