RELIGIOSOS CONTEMPORÂNEOS: CARACTERÍSTICAS DOS FREQUENTADORES DAS IGREJAS METODISTAS EM VOLTA REDONDA – RJ "Contemporary religious: characteristhics of the regulars in the Methodists Churches in Volta Redonda - RJ"

Abstract

A modernidade traz consigo uma série de transformações sociais que influenciam as instituições que atuam por trazer sentido à vida do sujeito contemporâneo. As instituições religiosas, e seus frequentadores, possuem características distintas das observadas em décadas passadas. Dentre os novos fenômenos religiosos, observa-se a existência de um contínuo movimento de pessoas entre os diferentes credos, denominado, trânsito religioso. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa foi estudar algumas características dos frequentadores das Igrejas Metodistas na cidade de Volta Redonda – RJ buscando identificar a experiência do trânsito em sua biografia religiosa. A pesquisa foi transversal e controlada, nas dependências das igrejas Metodistas, com 120 indivíduos com idade superior a 18 anos, de ambos os sexos, atuais participantes das atividades das igrejas Metodistas localizadas no município de Volta Redonda – RJ. Os dados coletados indicaram a importância que a religião ainda possui para a vida dos metodistas na cidade, bem como revelaram que o trânsito religioso é experimentado por um grande contingente de adeptos desse movimento (53,3%). É nesse contexto de busca por sentido que o campo religioso brasileiro ganha seu contorno, e o sujeito religioso seleciona conceitos e símbolos que suportem de forma eficaz o seu relacionamento com o divino.

Abstract

Modernity brings with it a series of social changes that influence the institutions that act for bringing meaning to the life of the contemporary subject. Religious institutions and its regulars have distinct characteristics different from those observed in past decades. Among the new religious phenomena observed the existence of a continuous movement of people between different creeds, named transit, religious. The main objective of this research was to study some characteristics of the regulars of the Methodist Churches in the city of Volta Redonda – RJ trying to identify traffic experience in his religious biography. The survey was made in the Methodist churches dependencies with 120 individuals over the age of 18 years, of both sexes, current participants of the activities of the Methodist churches located in the municipality of Volta Redonda – RJ. The data collected indicated the importance that religion still has in the life of the Methodists in that town, as well as revealed that the religious traffic is experienced by a large contingent of supporters of this movement (53.3%). It is the context of search for meaning that the religious field gains its contour in Brazil and the religious subject selects concepts and symbols to support effectively their relationship with the divine.
