Fragmentos eloquentes

Resumo

Qual o valor de um fragmento sem contexto? Partindo deste questiona-mento, proponho a reflexão acerca das louças do acervo arqueológico do Museu Paranaense, argumento inserido na observação das relações entre arqueologia e história construída dentro desta instituição em âmbitos diversos – publicações, estudo do acervo e exposição. Como recorte, este trabalho visa considerar a potencialidade do estudo do material categorizado como louça arqueológica diante da separação a que é submetida em relação a peças das coleções associadas ao setor de História. Estabelecidas as fronteiras, a restrição na produção de conhecimento inflige a dúvida: o silên-cio dos fragmentos é um dado factual ou sintoma de conservadorismo? Afinal, muito se disse sobre a incapacidade de falar das fontes – fala, sim, o pesquisador. O silêncio da problematização da louça arqueológica do MP tem sua procedência na mudez que lhe foi imposta pelo tratamento marginal. Enfim, o objetivo aqui é colocar em debate as atitudes cerceadoras que impomos aos nossos objetos de estudo, muitas vezes cau-sadas pela resistência em olhar além de metodologias naturalizadas de tratamento das evidências. Não pretendo oferecer a fórmula ideal para interpelar registros do passa-do, mas plantar a inquietação necessária para enriquecer o universo de possibilidades interpretativas de resquícios insignificantes que transbordam de significado.

Abstract:

What’s the value of a fragment without a context? From that question I propose to consider the pottery collection from the Paranaense Museum, from a perspective regarding the relationship between archaeology and history built by this institution in different realms – publications, collection studies and exhibits. As an extract, this paper aims the particular potential behind the study of the artifacts categorized as ‘archaeological pottery’ given its separation from the objects associated with the History department. Once the frontiers are set, the restriction on the production of knowledge leaves the doubt: is the silence of the fragments a given fact or a symptom of conservatism? After all, a lot has been said about the inability of sources to speak – it is the researcher whom really does the speaking. The silence behind the questioning of the archaeological pottery from PM has its origin in the muteness set by the marginal treatment it has received. Ultimately, the goal of this paper is to start debating the restrictive attitudes which we impose to our objects of study, caused many times by our resistance to look beyond naturalized methodologies of processing evidence. I do not wish to establish an ideal formula for dealing with the remains of the past, but to encourage the much needed unrest to enrich the universe of possible interpretations of those meaningless vestiges which overflow with meaning.
