THE (IN)DIRECT INFLUENCE OF THE PNEUMATOLOGY OF THE COUNCIL OF NICAEA ON THEODORE OF MOPSUESTIA’S COMMENTARY

The main objective of this article is to highlight the influence, albeit indirect, of the pneumatology of the Council of Nicaea on the theological thought of Theodore of Mopsuestia. More specifically, it aims to outline and present the arguments developed by Theodore of Mopsuestia in defense of the divine nature of the Holy Spirit in his Commentary on the Nicene Creed, and to show that these considerations are aligned with the Nicene Fathers’ understanding of the Holy Spirit. The arguments will be presented following some general considerations about his works and the context in which his Commentary was written. The article concludes with some brief reflections on Theodore of Mopsuestia’s pneumatology and theological positions.
