1700TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COUNCIL OF NICEA AND 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CLOSING OF THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL DOSSIER NO. 1

Syllabus: The Council of Nicaea (325) represents a fundamental milestone in the history of Christianity because of the themes it addressed, the documents it promulgated, the way it was celebrated, the diversity of its reception from the immediate moment of its conclusion, and its continuing relevance to the life of the Church, with particular attention to ecumenical dialogue.
The research project “Sempre Niceia: Present, Ecumenical Memories and History of the Council of Nicaea (2023-2025)”, whose first results will be presented here, aims to promote an ever better knowledge of the Council of Nicaea and its reception, through a critical reading of the sources, the interpretations over the centuries, the presence in the documents of the Churches and the studies dedicated to the Council of Nicaea, with special attention to the scientific production of recent decades, in order to offer a framework capable of helping the Church, especially in the rediscovery of such a living memory, to face the central questions of its mission in the 21st century, realizing the fruitful relevance of the Council of Nicaea.
