About the Journal

Paralellus is the journal of the Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences at the Catholic University of Pernambuco, UNICAP. Its aim is to disseminate the production of knowledge, with recognized scientific quality, from Area 44 of CAPES, which researches the phenomena of the religious field and their impact on society, from a strictly secular point of view.

Created in 2010, Paralellus' mission is to be a space open to ecumenical and inter-religious dialog, as well as to other fields of knowledge, from a classical, inter- and transdisciplinary perspective. Its work is published in the form of articles in dossiers and free themes, communications, interviews and reviews.

REFLEXÕES E PRÁTICAS NA FORMAÇÃO INICIAL E CONTINUADA DOS PROFISSIONAIS QUE ATUAM COM O ENSINO RELIGIOSO

Ementa: A questão do ensino religioso no Brasil tem ganhado destaque e provocado muitas polêmicas nos últimos anos. Por várias décadas predominou uma compreensão da confessionalidade do ensino religioso ministrado nas escolas. Com a pluralização do campo religioso brasileiro o debate em torno da adoção de um ensino religioso vinculado às Ciências da Religião vem ganhando força nos sistemas de ensino, legislações, resoluções e políticas públicas. Exemplo disto é o fato de, em 2027, celebrarmos os dez anos da BNCC e, em 2028, a primeira década das Diretrizes da Licenciatura em Ciências da Religião. Assim, o dossiê tem por objetivo discutir a formação inicial, continuada e outros aspectos peculiares aos profissionais que lidam com o ensino religioso cotidianamente.

CATOLICISMOS E SOCIEDADE NA AMÉRICA LATINA NOS SÉCULOS XX E XXI

Ementa: Os estudos sobre os catolicismos têm mobilizado pesquisadores de diferentes áreas do conhecimento, como as ciências da religião, a história, a sociologia ou a teologia. As investigações têm como problemáticas as devoções, a organização das congregações religiosas em diferentes continentes, a relação com a política, a organização administrativa da Igreja Católica, os usos das diferentes formas de mídia, o diálogo com outras práticas religiosas, dentre outras temáticas presentes em distintas fontes de pesquisa. Neste sentido, a partir de uma abordagem pluridisciplinar, com diferentes propostas teóricas e metodológicas, este dossiê tem o objetivo de reunir investigações que abordem sobre os catolicismos latino-americano nos séculos XX e XXI.

Vol. 16 No. 39 (2025): 1700TH YEAR OF THE COUNCIL OF NICAEA AND 60TH YEAR OF THE CLOSURE OF VATICAN II DOSSIER NO. 2

The Council of Nicaea (325) represents a fundamental milestone in the history of Christianities, whose importance manifests itself in its debates, documents, and in its continuing relevance for the life of the Church, with particular emphasis on ecumenical dialogue. On the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of its convening, in 2022, the international research project "Always Nicaea" (325-2025) was conceived to investigate the fecundity and contemporary relevance of the event from an ecumenical perspective. Promoted by institutions such as the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy, PFTIM and the Catholic University of Pernambuco, UNICAP, the initiative, formalised in 2024, arose from the appeals of Patriarch Bartholomew I and Pope Francis. With the pontificate of Leo XIV, successor to Francis, this call to unity gains fresh impetus. Together, they propose to rediscover the spiritual, synodal and ecumenical dimension of Nicaea, viewing it as a source for evangelical reform of the Church in the face of twenty-first-century challenges. This dossier, like the previous one, focuses on the need for historical-theological deepening regarding the reconstruction of the Council and its reception, illuminated by unpublished documentation and by a critical evaluation of historiography. Ultimately, the reflection seeks to understand how Nicaea can, even today, serve as a model of unity, inserting itself into a broader analysis of the meaning of the category "council" in the Churches of East and West.
