Abstract

This article results from the Conference that marked the end of the Second José Comblin Journey, a partnership between the José Comblin Research Groups from UNICAP and PUC-SP. It deals with the criticism by José Comblin and Pope Francis to the pastoral power, as well as resistances manifested against it along history. It starts from a narrative presented by Pr. Philippe Dupriez during an interview on June 30th 2017, in Ottignies, Belgium. The motive is the living-room window, through which the boy Comblin watched for a long time what was happening on the street. Window and its symbology is the pretext for think about the game of representations and their implications on the strategies and technologies of the clerical power. “Towards beyond the window” is the expression to show the attempt of both to escape from what they judge to be a trap and a negative limitation to evangelizing: the regulations of the clerical power, expressed mainly by the Roman Curia. The article is divided into three parts. The first one deepens the significance of the window, by means of Michel Foucault's excellent analysis of the picture Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez, in The Words and Things. The second shows the world vision of the theologist and the Pope for beyond the window. The third shows the criticism of both to the pastoral power and the antidotes for the liberty from its tightness, as well as the way towards the freedom of following Jesus, He who is indeed the Good Shepherd.
