Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the particular way in which Merleau-Ponty works the primacy of perception for phenomenology, based on the reflections raised by him in the text Cézanne's Doubt. The present article is divided into three topics: the first one briefly discusses the concepts of body and spirit; then it moves on to the analysis of how Paul Cézanne's painting is presented by the author as a particular mode of phenomenological research. In the third topic, the importance of perception is clarified in order to conceive a new understanding of human rationality that goes beyond the impasses of dichotomies such as body and spirit, sensitivity and intelligence. Furthermore, to achieve this, it will be necessary to relearn how to connect with the sensible world and definitively recognize perception as a mode of knowledge, to finally live our human animality in all its relational identity.
