A Leitura Crítica de Jacques Maritain da Modernidade desde a Noção de Humanismo Integral

A modernidade, para além de um tempo histórico da cronologia filosófica, passou a ser um conceito que ainda gera grandes embates entre os teóricos. De fato, pode-se perguntar “em que consiste a modernidade?”. Será, a modernidade, um projeto acabado ou está ainda vigente? Essas perguntas têm motivado várias respostas, tanto no intuito de defender o esgotamento da modernidade quanto no esforço de evidenciar sua vigência. Diante dessa problemática filosófica a respeito da modernidade, Jacques Maritain, à luz da filosofia neoescolástica francesa, também procura elaborar sua leitura. Nesse sentido, o que se pretende neste artigo é apresentar a leitura de Maritain sobre a modernidade encontrada, de modo mais especial, em sua obra “Humanismo Integral” (1937). Para tanto, serão evidenciados os pressupostos da discussão maritaniana da modernidade, subsequente, a identificação teórica que este autor faz entre modernidade e tragédia mediante a dialética do humanismo e, por fim, sua discussão histórica e sua fundamentação cultural. Pretende-se, ao final, evidenciar que Maritain não se encontra no binômio: pós-modernistas ou modernistas tardios, mas apresenta uma leitura original da modernidade desde uma perspectiva histórico-cultural crítica do humanismo.
