Abstract

It has become common to speak of a “forgetfulness of the Spirit” in Western theology. And the awareness of this pneumatological deficit is intrinsically linked to the recovery of the centrality of the Holy Spirit in the life and mission of the Church in the Second Vatican Council. Not only because of the numerous explicit references it makes to the Holy Spirit, but above all because of the centrality it gives to the Spirit in the life and mission of the Church and in the work of salvation as a whole. Not by chance, John XXIII spoke of the Second Vatican Council as a “new Pentecost” for the Church.
