About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The purpose of Fronteiras Journal is to disseminate reflection in the field of Theology, with recognized scientific quality, and is open to ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue, as well as to other fields of scientific knowledge. Our mission is to be a space for current theological reflection based on contextualized themes in open dialogue with other areas of knowledge, cultures and perspectives.
The Journal publishes articles that cover the following areas:
- Theology: 1. Theology of Christian Praxis (Christian Spirituality and Cultural and Religious Pluralism; Current Ethical Trends). 2. Systematic Theology (Biblical Sources of Christian Tradition; Interpretation of Christian Tradition in the Current Horizon) and,
- Religious Sciences through its interdisciplinary perspective.
Fronteiras publishes articles by doctors and masters from different academic institutions located in different regions of the country, as well as from other countries and continents.
The texts must be original (at least 60% of the content) in Portuguese, Spanish, French, English, Italian and German. Works in other languages, if accepted, will be published in the original. Articles will be submitted to the journal's standards checklist, to pre-evaluation by a member of the Editorial Board and, if approved, will be sent for external evaluation by ad hoc evaluators.
Peer Review Process
The journal's evaluation system is double-blind, in which the works are analyzed based on criteria related to their relevance, methodology, elaboration, content relevance, originality and scientific rigor. The guidelines for reviewers are available at http://www.unicap.br/ojs/index.php/fronteiras/article/view/1151/1036
The Journal has a Scientific Board and ad hoc reviewers, made up of a group of experts with renowned knowledge in Theology, Religious Sciences and related areas that constitute the epistemological field of these two Sciences. The scientific-editorial board is composed of thematic advisors from Postgraduate Programs internal and external to UNICAP, who also contribute to the evaluation process. However, when, due to the topic of the article, specific knowledge is required, the Editorial Board may call on ad hoc reviewers. The article selection process involves the evaluation of two or three ad hoc expert reviewers. Each article is sent to two reviewers, in the double-blind peer review process. If one of the reviewers approves and the other does not recommend publication, the article is submitted to a third review, after due revision. This review is the tiebreaker. All articles are submitted to the same evaluation system, except when resulting from an invitation from the Editorial Comitee.
Frequency
Semi-annual. Publications in June and December.
Open Access Policy
This journal offers immediate open access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater global democratization of knowledge.

History of the Journal
Fronteiras is the journal of the Postgraduate Program in Theology of the Catholic University of Pernambuco - UNICAP.
The title refers to the dialogical perspective of D. Helder Camara, who from the Igreja das Fronteiras in Recife established links with people and movements from all over the world.
The Dom's praxis was based on his experience that came from his own understanding of the Holy Scriptures, witnessed from evangelical principles.
Inspired by the practical theology of D. Helder, the Journal aims to be a space for current theological reflection based on themes contextualized in open dialogue with other areas of knowledge, cultures and perspectives.
