Synopsis

The documentary Vindas e Vidas (Arrivals and Lives, 2019) tells the story of four Venezuelan families who migrated to Brazil and arrived at the state of Pernambuco, in the northeast region of the country, where they try to rebuild their lives. Almost five million people left Venezuela due to the economic and humanitarian crisis the country has been facing in recent years. As of November 2019, more than 200,000 Venezuelans had arrived in Brazil.

Besides showcasing the life of characters, the documentary also intends to promote a broad reflection about the challenges of welcoming, which applies to the situation of migrants and refugees of different nationalities all over the world. Along 47 minutes, the spectators are invited to put themselves in those people's shoes, to deconstruct prejudices and to think over their own humanity.

The documentary, which is a non-profit audiovisual work, is the result of a partnership between the Federal Prosecution Service of Brazil, the Catholic University of Pernambuco and Caritas Brazil Regional Northeast 2. It was produced by people who work in those institutions, with the support of volunteers, without any additional funding.
